My name is Rahul Joshi, and I do photography, design, writing, and film, among other things. I am a photographer and designer largely because I enjoy looking at and creating beautiful things. I write because I like how the written word can precisely - and sometimes pleasantly - convey interesting thoughts.

My visual work is nothing more than an attempt at accurately portraying the beauty in the world - in light, in shapes, in people and in objects. I think the life and perfection inherent in certain creations of nature and Man are far more profound than any of the arbitrary and conditional intellectual games that go in the name of "theory" these days. And that is why I think the domain of photography and design is entirely aesthetic and not conceptual. I don't think photographs or designs symbolise or represent anything, just like a physical tree in the wilderness "symbolises" nothing - at least nothing that is transparent and obvious to a normal human being like myself. Perhaps the fact that I like to take photographs of trees in the wilderness comments on the preoccupations of my psyche, but that's not a very rewarding line of thought in my opinion.
